Dominique Wilkins Career
The former American basketball player, Jacques Dominique Wilkins primarily played for the Atlanta Hawks of the National Basketball Association. Wilkins is viewed as one of the best dunkers worldwide in NBA history while also being a nine-time NBA All-Star which earned him the nickname “The Human Highlight Film”.
Then in 1979 as a complete shock to every North Carolina resident, he joined the University of Georgia. He was named SEC Men’s Basketball Player of the Year in 1981 having an average of 21.6 points a game. Then in the 1982 NBA Draft, the Utah Jazz drafted him third overall and he left his college in his junior year. However, after the Draft, Wilkins was traded to the Atlanta Hawks.
Wilkins was a prominent figure in the Hawks, in 1980 the club recorded 50-win consecutively four times. On 13 January 2001, the Hawks retired his jersey #21 and he is one of five players whose jerseys are retired by the Hawks.
Wilkins is also inducted into the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame as a player. Moreover, he is also inducted into the College Basketball Hall of Fame.
Currently, Wilkins works as a ‘Special Advisor’ for the Atlanta Hawks.
