Donovan Mitchell has called himself a “terrible teammate” after a major goof-up involving Evan Mobley when the Cleveland Cavaliers went up against the Atlanta Hawks.
The Cleveland Cavaliers welcomed the Atlanta Hawks in their latest clash on Monday night. The Cavaliers strolled to a comfortable 114-102 win against the Hawks at the Rocket Mortgage Fieldhouse in Cleveland, courtesy of Donovan Mitchell’s heroics in a game where he racked up 29 points, 4 rebounds, and 9 assists – and helped the Cavaliers to their third win on the bounce.
Mitchell continued his hot streak of form since the beginning of the season as he put on quite a show en route to the win. Not only was Mitchell’s shooting form of song as he made 11 of his 12 field goals, but he also assisted his teammates with nine assists and racked up four rebounds. However, Mitchell still called himself a “terrible teammate” posting on Twitter after the game.
It was right in the dying moments of the game when the Hawks had their final attempt that shot back down from the backboard – and despite center Evan Mobley trying his best to pick up the pieces; it was Mitchell who completed the rebound to Mobley’s visible frustration. The center was on nine rebounds and on his way to a double-double if not for Mitchell’s interception.
The clip from the game that has since gone viral not only featured Mitchell snatching away Mobley’s chance at a double-double, but it also features Jarrett Allen who hilariously watched the whole thing take place right in the paint. Mitchell saw the lighter side of affairs after the game, calling himself a “terrible teammate” and even apologizing to Mobley.
Mitchell has been incredible since he traded the Utah Jazz for the Cavaliers this year.
Mitchell has been in outstanding form since his trade, as he is currently averaging 29.8 points, 4.3 rebounds and 6.0 assists per game this season. Mitchell’s form has ensured that the Cavaliers have got themselves a strong start to the season, as they currently sit third in the Eastern Conference with a 11-6 record in 17 games.
The Cavaliers will hope to keep up with this form as they look to make the NBA Playoffs.
