Dream Liverpool XI featuring Arsenal star Aaron Ramsey

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has created something special at Anfield and with this being the German’s fourth season in charge, all that’s left to do is win silverware.

There is a palpable sense of unity and determination among the players and if they continue playing like they did last season, who knows how dominant this Liverpool side could be in the coming years?

The Reds are the favourites to win the Premier League along with Manchester City. However, City broke numerous records last season as they cruised to the title. If the Reds are to compete with the Sky Blues over the course of a gruelling season, Klopp must make a few acquisitions.

To that end, they have been linked with a move for Arsenal midfielder Aaron Ramsey (h/t The Mirror).

A probable Liverpool XI could end up like this on paper:

Dream Liverpool XI

Manager: Jurgen Klopp

Formation: 4-3-3

Alisson Becker (GK)

An area that Liverpool needed to strengthen for years. Jurgen Klopp loaned out Loris Karius and brought in a world-class shot-stopper in Alisson. He may well be Liverpool’s long-term solution.

Trent Alexander-Arnold

Liverpool’s young academy graduate broke through the ranks in the 2017/2018 campaign and hasn’t looked back since. He scored his first-ever goal in a Champions League qualifier and became the youngest star to play in a Champions League final. The young scouser seems to have cemented his place in Klopp’s side.

Joe Gomez

Despite selling Ragnar Klavan, Jurgen Klopp decided to not strengthen his backline in the summer. As a result, young Joe Gomez is now reaping the rewards. A quick centre-back, Gomez looks comfortable in possession and has been colossal at the back with partner Virgil van Dijk. Indeed, a talent Liverpool must hold on to for the coming years.

Virgil van Dijk

Arguably the best defender in the league, the centre-back has transformed Liverpool since moving to Anfield in January. A true leader on and off the pitch, he has undoubtedly justified his price tag every time he stepped onto the field.

Andrew Robertson

This time last year, Andy Robertson was not even in contention to challenge for Liverpool’s left-back spot. Roll on a year later; he is now the captain of Scotland and one of the most consistent full-backs in Europe. It goes without saying that he is one of the first names on the teamsheet every week.

Naby Keita

Liverpool acquired the services of Naby Keita on a pre-agreed contract last season and finally got to see what he’s capable this year. Keita is an athletic box-to-box midfielder who loves to drive at defenders and has a bite in his tackles defensively. He might take some time to adjust to Klopp’s intense demands but he has all the qualities to become an Anfield legend.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain

Oxlade-Chamberlain made a slow start to his Liverpool career but soon started to fill the void left by Phillipe Coutinho in January, putting in some stellar performances in the games that followed. His energy and drive are there for all to see and he looks like a player reborn under Klopp. There is more to come from this dynamic midfielder once he returns from his injury.

Aaron Ramsey

The Welsh midfielder, who currently earns £110,000-a-week at Arsenal, has been linked with a move away from the Emirates with Liverpool leading the chase (h/t The Mirror). He could feature in a midfield three, provided the Reds manager chooses to work with the Welshman.

It will also present him with the opportunity to link up with ex-Gunner Oxlade-Chamberlain. A midfield trio of Ramsey, Oxlade-Chamberlain and Keita could take the club to great heights.

Mohamed Salah

Arguably the best piece of business Liverpool have done in years. From the word get-go, Mohamed Salah fit Klopp’s style of play perfectly. Known for his speed, pressing abilities and blistering counter-attacks, he was scoring goals for fun and ended the 2017/2018 Premier League season with a record-breaking 32 goals; a feat never achieved in a 38-game campaign.

The Egyptian pipped Harry Kane to the Golden Boot and he must aim to build on his success from last season this time as well.

Roberto Firmino

“Bobby Firmino” is a chant you get used during every game at Anfield and on the road. The fans love the energy and the passion he brings with every passing second on the pitch. He is the first line of defence in this system and embodies Klopp’s style of play – which involves gegenpressing when out of possession.

There probably isn’t another player in the Premier League who can lead the press from the front while suiting the work ethic Klopp demands. Probably gets the least credit out of the front three but undoubtedly, he is the most important.

Sadio Mane

Sadio Mane is another reason as to why this front three works so well in tandem. He provides the X-factor and is unpredictable with the ball at his feet – direct, full of pace and always running at defenders. Mane is versatile, always on the move and ready for counter-attacks at the drop of a hat.
