Scotland Premiership clubs have been quite active in the transfer market, with Rangers and Hearts being arguably the busiest. After finishing third last season, manager Steven Gerrard has opened the chequebook at the Ibrox as he must aim to challenge Celtic’s dominance.
Hearts manager Craig Levein has seemingly reacted to the Edinburgh side’s sixth-place finish by sanctioning a major squad surgery after taking charge from predecessor Ian Cathro.
St Johnstone and Partick Thistle were also not left out. However, champions Celtic were involved in the biggest transfers in and out of the Premiership.
Scotland midfielder Stuart Armstrong has taken the all-too-familiar route by moving to the south coast to join Southampton. Brendan Rodgers’ side also broke the club’s transfer record by signing striker Odsonne Edouard from Paris Saint-Germain for a fee in excess of £8m.
New St Mirren boss Alan Stubbs also landed some impressive free transfers. Fellow newly-promoted side Livingston concentrated on picking up free agents from last season’s Championship rivals, while also replacing manager David Hopkin with former Rangers striker Kenny Miller as player-manager.
