The 28th edition of the Dubai Duty Free Men’s Tennis Championship offers a prize money of US$2.9million
The current edition of Dubai Duty Free Men’s Tennis Championship will kick off from February 24th.
Dubai Duty Free Men’s Tennis Championship, more commonly known as the Dubai Open is the third tournament in pro tennis history to award equal prize money for both men and women.
The tournament offers a total prize money of US$ 5.8million, with the male and female winners each receiving US$2.9 million.
Players to watch out
The tournament features many top stars from the planet competing against each other and has in the past attracted the likes of Andre Agassi, Boris Becker, Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, and Novak Djokovic to name a few.
However, the main highlight of this year’s tournament is the return of World No.1 Novak Djokovic. Djokovic, who has won four titles here has not played at the court in Dubai since last appearing in 2016.
Also, this year defending champion Roger Federer will not be able to defend his title after having announced his unavailability after undergoing arthroscopic surgery recently.
With Federer out Djokovic’s would be once again hopeful of claiming his fifth title at a venue that has been his happy hunting ground early in his career. The Dubai Open will also feature World No.6 Stefanos Tsitsipas, who has been seeded second behind top-seed Djokovic. Tsitsipas was the runner-up here last year while another name to be mentioned is third seed Gael Monfils.
Monfils is in terrific form at the moment having won back to back titles at Montpellier and Rotterdam and could pose a serious challenge to the above two. Other big names include Italian Fabio Fognini, Spaniard Roberto Bautista Agut, Russian Andre Rublev, and Marin Cilic among many others.
