Dubai Tennis Championships 2023: Jessica Pegula vs Ana Bogdan – Preview, Head-to-Head, and Prediction

3rd seed Jessica Pegula takes on world No. 75 Ana Bogdan in the round of 16 of the Dubai Tennis Championships on Wednesday.

The American star played a crucial role in the USA’s triumphant campaign in the United Cup. Pegula went on to play in the Australian Open where she made it to the quarterfinals for the third year in a row. She lost to Victoria Azarenka in straight sets. In the Qatar Open, Pegula managed to reach the finals where she lost to Iga Swiatek.

After receiving a first-round bye, Pegula went on to defeat Viktoriya Tomova in the second round. The 28-year-old lost the second set but played exceedingly well in the first and third sets to win the match 6-2, 5-7, 6-1. Pegula converted 8 out of 11 break points in the encounter.

Ana Bogdan

The Romanian tennis pro didn’t have a great start to the season as she couldn’t qualify for the main draw of the Adelaide International 1 and the Adelaide International 2. In the Australian Open, Bogdan lost to Anna Bondar in the first round. She suffered yet another first-round exit in the Lyon Open with a loss to Clara Burel. Bogdan couldn’t qualify for the main draw of the Qatar Open as she lost to Karolina Pliskova in the first round of qualifying.

The 30-year-old notched up a fine win against Laura Siegemund in the first round of the Dubai Tennis Championships. The match ended 7-5, 6-3 in favor of Bogdan who had a win percentage of 81 on the first serve. In the second round, Bogdan converted 5 out of 7 break points and defeated Shelby Rogers in straight sets 7-6 (7-3), 6-3.
