8th seed Borna Coric locks horns with British No. 2 Dan Evans in the round of 32 of the Dubai Tennis Championships.
The Croatian star had two wins and one loss in the inaugural United Cup. He went on to play in the Australian Open where his campaign ended abruptly as he crashed out in the first round following a loss to Jiri Lehecka in straight sets.
The former world No. 12 picked up a couple of wins in the Davis Cup before entering the Montpellier Open as the third seed. After receiving a bye into the second round, Coric got the better of Arthur Rinderknech. Coric’s campaign ended in the quarterfinals as he lost to Maxime Cressy. The world No. 20 was set to play the ATP Rotterdam Open but a hip injury caused him to withdraw. Coric has thankfully recovered quickly from the injury and would be raring to go.
The 32-year-old had one win and two losses in the United Cup. He went on to play in the Adelaide International 2 but his campaign ended in the first round. Evans defeated Facundo Bagnis and Jeremy Chardy in the first two rounds of the Australian Open before crashing out in the third round with a loss to Andrey Rublev.
Evans suffered losses against Nicolas Mejia and Emil Ruusuvuori in the Davis Cup and the Qatar Open, respectively. The experienced campaigner comes into the Dubai Tennis Championships on a 3-match losing streak.
Dan Evans has a 1-0 lead in the head-to-head scoreline against Borna Coric. The experienced British player defeated Coric in two competitive sets 7-5, 7-6 in the quarterfinals of the Melbourne 2 tournament in 2021.
