3rd seed Daniil Medvedev squares off against lucky loser Matteo Arnaldi in the round of 32 of the Dubai Tennis Championships.
Daniil Medvedev
The Russian star has the second-most number of wins on the ATP Tour this season. With 14 wins, he is 4 behind Cameron Norrie’s tally of 18.
Medvedev comes into the tournament on the back of triumphant campaigns in the Rotterdam Open and Qatar Open. He went on to win the titles in the two competitions. In the finals of the Rotterdam Open, Medvedev defeated Jannik Sinner while in the Qatar Open finals, he beat Andy Murray. He recently returned back into the top 10 in the ATP rankings and is currently placed at No. 7.
Matteo Arnaldi
The 22-year-old has mostly played in Challenger events this season. His best result came in a Challenger event in Tenerife earlier this month. Arnaldi managed to win the title by defeating compatriot Raul Brancaccio in the final. There isn’t much to write home about regarding Arnaldi’s results thus far in 2023.
Arnaldi got the better of Simon Carr in the first round of qualifying for the Dubai Tennis Championships. The match ended in straight sets 7-5, 6-4. However, in the second round, Arnaldi was comprehensively beaten by Tomas Machac. The lucky loser will have to be at his very best to give an in-form Medvedev some stiff competition.
Head-to-Head and Prediction
The head-to-head scoreline currently stands at 0-0 as the two players have never faced each other as yet.
Prediction: Daniil Medvedev to win in straight sets.
