Square Enix introduced Dungeon Encounters, a fresh new Nintendo Switch game, at this year’s Tokyo Game Show. Here is everything you need to know about this RPG dungeon crawler.
Hiroyuki Ito, the director of Final Fantasy 6, Final Fantasy 9, and Final Fantasy 12, and the designer of the franchise’s renowned Active Time Battle system is leading a new dungeon crawler called Dungeon Encounters. This dungeon crawler with a strategic focus is a completely new dungeon exploration RPG. This game appears to be focused on pure gameplay above all else, with a streamlined interface and basic design.
In addition to Ito, Hiroaki Kato, the producer of Final Fantasy 12: The Zodiac Age, who previously worked on Square Enix’s Tactics Ogre: Let Us Cling Together and two Final Fantasy Tactics titles — is working on the game. The soundtrack is being “supervised” by Nobuo Uematsu, while Dungeon Encounters incorporates character art by Ryoma Ito. Dungeon Encounter gameplay
It takes a basic, grid-based approach to dungeon exploring, as you can see in the trailer. You explore and must pay attention to hex-based numbers, with trial and error likely to be the most important aspect of each dungeon’s completion. Events aren’t just triggered by conflicts; according to the official website, any activity or pick-up – such as visiting shops – will create an ‘event’ on the map.
You must search every nook and cranny for treasures, unlock and modify skills, locate hidden shops, and much more. Battle encounters are spread over the map, so you’ll need to keep an eye on your team and be ready to fight at any moment.

Dungeon Encounters release date
Square Enix has revealed Dungeon Encounters launches on October 14, 2021. You can also pre-order the game right now. Players who pre-order the game will receive a 20% discount on the game.
Dungeon Encounters Price
On October 14, Dungeon Encounters will be released digitally for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, and Windows PC via Steam. The game will cost $29.99, but pre-orders are currently available for $23.99.
This new title is certainly a new take on the dungeon crawler genre. Square Enix is trying out something new with Dungeon Encounter. It will be interesting to see how the game actually turns out.
