Dylan Windler is an American professional basketball player for the Cleveland Cavaliers of the NBA. He played college basketball for the Belmont Bruins. He serves as a shooting guard and small forward for the team.
He played for the Indiana Elite AAU team along with future Virginia player Kyle Guy in the summer of 2014. As a senior-year player, he conquered 27.3 points and 10.2 rebounds per game.
As a freshman, Windler played a subpar season riding the bench and averaged around 4.3 points per game. His following sophomore year, he took on a starting guard position and became an outside threat with a 39.8% three-point completion rate, averaging 9.2 points per game.
His junior year was phenomenal, leading with 17.3 points, and 9.3 rebounds per game. He was entitled to First-Team All-OVC. Following that in his senior season, it also entitled Dylan to Julius Erving Award watchlist in 2019. Also, he earned a spot on the OVC Commissioner’s Honor Roll three times and an Academic All-American twice.
Dylan also served as the student-athlete liaison on the NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball Competition Committee. He led his team to win over teams like Morehead State, and Temple Owls.
Dylan’s professional career landed in its place when Cleveland Cavaliers drafted him as the 26th overall pick in the first round of the 2019 NBA draft.
On July 3, 2019, the Cleveland Cavaliers announced they had signed with Windler. In January 2020, Windler was ruled out for the season with a leg injury. Some say now that Cleveland Cavaliers Swingman could miss six more weeks with a right ankle injury. Windler recently received a PRP (platelet-rich plasma) injection and will need around one month to recover.
He missed his entire rookie year with a lower leg stress fracture that required surgery. When he made his pro debut in 2020, Windler lasted just nine minutes before crashing to the floor and fracturing his hand. Then came a patellar tendon debridement, which ended that second season early.
