While still a high school student, Sullivan began his professional career when he was hired as a writer for the Port Chester Daily Item, a local newspaper. The Hartford Post, the New York Evening Mail, the Associated Press, the Morning Telegraph, and the Leader were among the notable periodicals to which Sullivan contributed as his writing abilities grew over time.

In his younger years, Sullivan had a close relationship with the extraordinary swimmer Sybil Bauer, and the two had discussed getting married. Sadly, soon before their wedding in 1927, Sybil suddenly passed away, shattering their dreams. But Sullivan was about to experience another chapter in his destiny.
Three years later, he fell in love and discovered Sylvia Weinstein, and the two of them welcomed their cherished daughter Elizabeth into the world. The family lived in the opulent Hotel Astor on Times Square and indulged in New York City’s colorful atmosphere. They afterward relocated to the prestigious Hotel Delmonico, where they stayed in a magnificent suite of rooms.

However, life took an unexpected turn when tragedy struck once again. In 1973, Sullivan’s heart was burdened with immense sorrow as his beloved wife, Sylvia, succumbed to an aortic rupture.
Throughout his life, Sullivan had been a dedicated smoker, indulging in the habit that would ultimately lead to his own health battle. In September of 1974, he received a devastating diagnosis of esophageal cancer, and medical professionals expressed their concerns, revealing that time was not on his side. Courageously facing his prognosis, Sullivan fought a valiant battle, but unfortunately, the sands of time slipped away.
In the following month, at the age of 77, Sullivan peacefully departed from this world, leaving behind a legacy of love, cherished memories, and a remarkable journey that touched the hearts of many.
