Edmen Shahbazyan was born in Glendale, California, in the United States of America in November 1997. He fights out of Glendale, California but is proud of his Armenian heritage; he is seen bringing the country’s flag to many of his MMA fights.
Shahbazyan got into mixed martial arts training at the young age of 9, and has been at his current gym, Glendale Fighting Club, since the age of 12. In his teenage years, he was also the training partner for UFC legend Ronda Rousey.
He is currently managed by Rousey’s One Fight Management. Shahbazyan started his MMA journey in California itself, where he mustered a 6-0 record- all those wins came in a first-round knockout. What followed next was a call-up to Dana White’s coveted, most sought-after MMA promotion in the world.
At the young age of 23, Edmen Shahbazyan has garnered a net worth of approximately $580,000 as of 2021. This is a lot, considering the youngster is just getting started. Much of this is down to the 6 fights he has had in UFC.
As for his payout, he took home $32,000 in his last UFC fight, which came in a loss against Derek Brunson at UFC Vegas 5. But that wasn’t his highest salary from one MMA fight. The Golden Boy pocketed an impressive $62,000 when he beat Brad Tavares at UFC 244.
His total career earnings in the UFC are said to be around $194,500 on May 20th, 2021. He is undoubtedly going to add to that amount in the future, with his UFC career still in its nascent stage.
Edmen Shahbazyan has an impressive professional MMA record of 11-1-0 and a UFC record of 5-1-0. As mentioned above, he won all his first 6 fights in California-based promotions before making the step up to UFC in mid-2018.
His first official UFC fight came in Dana White’s Contenders Series 13 on July 17, 2018, against Antonio Jones. He has since gone on to beat the likes of Darren Stewart, Charles Byrd, and Brad Tavares.
He was on an 11-fight winning streak and a 5-fight UFC winning streak until he met Derek Brunson at UFC Vegas 5 on August 1, 2020. Brunson won via TKO in round 3 to hand The Golden Boy his first-ever MMA loss.
Shahbazyan is currently in a relationship with his girlfriend, Kristina Shahakian, who is a popular blogger on Instagram. The MMA fighter first posted a picture with her in January 2018 and the two are still going strong.
Not much is known about Shahbazyan’s parents but the 23-year-old does an elder brother- Leon Shahbazyan. Leon (b. 1995) is also an MMA fighter who last fought in Contender Series in 2019.
As for Edmen’s endorsements, the three recorded brands to have endorsed him in recent times are Reebok, Pain Away, and Rehydr8. Apart from that, not much is available on his sponsors list but as he keeps winning the big fights, more and more brands will start coming in for sure.
Shahbazyan’s last fight was against Brunson at UFC Vegas 5 where he lost in the main event. But he has a chance to get back to winning ways this weekend when he takes on Jack Hermansson in his next fight.
The two were originally scheduled to fight at UFC 262. However, the fight was postponed for unknown reasons and will now take place at UFC Vegas 27 on 22nd May 2021. This will be a chance for him to climb up in the middleweight rankings, where he is currently 10th.
Hermansson is currently ranked 7th in the division before his fight with Shahbazyan and the 32-year-old boasts of a 21-6-0 MMA record as of now.
