Elden Ring release date, gameplay, multiplayer, and more

Here is everything you need to know about Elden Ring, the action RPG game made with collaboration between George R. R. Martin and From Software.

After the first reveal of Elden Ring at E3 in 2019, there weren’t any updates given by the developers From Software. Fans were waiting for a glimpse at the game and even some concept art. Finally From Software released not just a teaser but a full gameplay trailer for Elden Ring. From the looks of it, it is going to be a classic RPG with Souls-style gameplay.

Elden Ring release date

From Software has officially announced the release date for its action RPG title Elden Ring. The game will be released worldwide on 21 January 2022. Initially, the 2022 launch date seemed very far but since it is in January, we can’t wait to try the new RPG. You can also check out the game on Steam.

Elden Ring gameplay

Elden Ring was a part of the Summer Game Fest Event hosted by Geoff Knightly at the start of E3. They released a three-minute gameplay trailer that looked similar to the action we have seen in the Dark Souls game. Fans of Dark Souls are excited to dive back into the action by fighting huge monsters, giant bosses and then finally resting at bonfires.

Elden Ring will have a vast open world that the players can explore. Players will be able to discover new areas and enemies as they jump and ride on horses. A new fighting mechanic has been introduced in the game which will make it more interesting. It is called a Guard Counter where the players will be able to attack immediately after blocking. This system will be different from parrying an attack. A new World Map will be introduced in the game where players will be able to place markers and make the navigation easier.

Players familiar with the Dark Souls games can enjoy the best features from the game as they will be returning to Elden Ring. The Co-op mode where players team up with players to fight monsters and enemies will be returning. Players will be able to fast travel and rest at the much-needed bonfires. The bonfires in Elden Ring will be called Sites of Lost Grace. The Player vs Player mode is also returning to Elden Ring. You will be able to fight other players and test your skills. For those who love to laugh at other people’s mistakes, Elden Ring will also have bloodstains

Elden Ring Multiplayer

Co-op for up to four players has been confirmed by the developers. Based on what we’ve seen, it appears that you’ll be able to summon your friends for co-op, and they’ll appear as phantoms, as in the Souls games. We also know that invasions are returning, though there may be some additional restrictions. According to recent previews, you will not be able to invade a solo player, only one who is currently co-oping. However, According to FromSoft, that decision is not final.

Giant Monsters

Elden Ring Open World

Miyazaki described the world of Elden Ring as “ripe for exploration” when it was first revealed. He confirmed that it will take place in an open world, referring to it as a large open field to play on. While Dark Souls is relatively unrestricted in terms of exploration, Elden Ring appears to be even more so. Despite its open-world nature, this is a From-style game. Rather than the bustling villages of NPCs that we might expect from other open-world RPGs, Elden Ring will opt for a grim open world. In an interview with IGN, Miyazaki said “Creating a new type of game is a big challenge for us, If we would add towns on top of that, it would become a bit too much, so we decided to create an open-world style game focused on what we are best at.”

Leaping from horseback

According to the details revealed so far, the world is divided into six major zones, each with its own set of bosses and dungeons. Elden Ring open world will have a weather and time system which will influence the gameplay. The fast travel system from Dark Souls will be returning to the new game. The horseback riding feature introduced in the game will have some interesting mechanisms. The horse will materialise out of thin air when you summon it. Your horse will also have the ability to jump off of cliffs and elevated areas. You can access a hub area that will be added a little later in the game.

Story Setting

The world of Elden Ring will be called The Lands Between and it has been written by the Fame of Thrones writer George R. R. Martin. Miyazaki has given some details about the story setting for Elden Ring. In the interview conducted by IGN he said

“The world of Elden Ring, The Lands Between is blessed by the presence of the Elden Ring and by the Erdtree, which symbolizes its presence, and this has given grace or blessing to the people throughout the land, great and small. What this represented in them is this sort of golden light, or this golden aura, that’s specifically shown in their eyes. And this symbolizes the blessing or the grace of the Erdtree. However, after a time, there were some individuals who lost this grace, and the light faded from their eyes. And these are what are known as the Tarnished.”

Combat System

Elden Ring’s combat appears to be the type of action RPG system that we’re already used to from From Software. There are powerful bosses. Dodge rolling, backstabbing, blocking, and spellcasting are all possible choices. Even the combat animations are recognisable.

FromSoftware has this to say about the stamina system: “The stamina bar exists in Elden Ring, but we feel it has less influence on the player overall. We wanted to make it feel less restrictive.”

Combat System

Elden Ring will have a stealth-based combat system that will play a small part in the game. Elden Ring will have some sort of horseback combat. We haven’t seen much of it, but there have been scenarios of slashing at an oncoming foe while both of you are on horseback. There also appears to be a strong emphasis on summons. Souls games have allowed you to summon the spirits of friendly characters to aid you in battle at times. They’re always in specific locations, often near boss fights, but Elden Ring’s summon system appears to be much larger and more freeform.

Elden Ring will be released worldwide on 21 January 2022.
