Current British No. 1 Emma Raducanu is all set to compete in the 2022 Wimbledon beginning this week. She will have the support of the home fans.
This will be Emma Raducanu’s second appearance in the most prestigious Grand Slam of the year. Last year she entered as a wild card and managed to advance to the fourth round before having to retire as she experienced breathing difficulties and sickness. However, she showed glimpses of the champion player she would turn into over the next twelve months.
The teenager shocked the world when she won the 2021 US Open after defeating Leyla Fernandez in the final. However, her last two Grand Slam appearances have been underwhelming. She bowed out in the second round of both the Australian Open and French Open competitions this year. Her form has not been too promising this year. But with the support of fellow Britishers from the stands, the 19-year-old can put in a stellar performance.
Emma Raducanu will take on the Belgian tennis pro, Alison Van Uytvanck in the first round of the third Grand Slam of the year.
Van Uytvanck has won five WTA Tour titles (singles) and three Challenger Tour singles titles. She has also won twelve singles titles on the ITF Circuit.
Like Raducanu, Van Uytvanck has lost in the second round of both the Australian Open and French Open competitions this year.
However, the 28-year-old had a triumphant campaign in the recently-concluded Veneto Open Internazionali Confindustria Venezia e Rovigo (also known as Gaibledon). So the Belgian will be coming into the tournament with some confidence. This should be a good test for Raducanu but we do expect the youngster to come out victorious.
