In 2016, Shibahara teamed up with Jada Hart to win the US Open junior doubles championship. They also entered the women’s doubles event as wildcards and lost in the first round.
In 2019, Shibahara teamed up with Japan’s Shuko Aoyama and won her first title on the WTA Tour. Shibahara and Aoyama won the 2021 Miami Open by defeating the team of Hayley Carter and Luisa Stefani in straight sets 6-2, 7-5.
The duo of Shibahara and Aoyama went on to reach the semifinals at Wimbledon. They also took part in the 2020 Summer Olympics in Japan. In 2021, they made it to the semifinals of the WTA Finals. Shibahara and Aoyama managed to win 7 more titles and 5 of those titles were at the WTA 500 level.

Shibahara won her biggest title at the 2022 French Open as she teamed with Wesley Koolhof to bag the mixed doubles crown. With this win, Shibahara became the first Japanese player to win the mixed doubles championship in Paris in 25 years since Rika Hiraki and Mahesh Bhupathi emerged victorious in the 1997 edition of the tournament.
Shibahara and Aoyama have made it to the finals of the 2023 Australian Open. They will be facing the top-seeded team of Barbora Krejcikova and Katerina Siniakova in the final. This is the first time Shibahara has made it to the finals of a major in the women’s doubles event.
