Everton Opinion: Toffees need to offload Sandro Ramirez this summer
According to claims from Spanish source Mundo Deportivo, as cited by Sport Witness, Real Sociedad have decided against triggering the buy option in Everton loanee Sandro Ramirez’s loan deal and the 23-year-old is set to return to Goodison Park come the end of the season.
The Spaniard has managed 24 appearances for Sociedad in the La Liga this season but his goal drought has not come to an end, with his barren patch in front of goal stretching for more than a year.
Ramirez last scored in Everton’s 5-1 home defeat to Atalanta in the Europa League back in November 2017 but he has failed to find the net on a single occasion on successive loan spells at Sevilla and Real Sociedad.
It is quite clear that Sociedad have dodged a huge bullet by deciding against making his stay permanent at the end of the season.
There is apparently no point in keeping a striker on the books if he doesn’t contribute with goals and assists but Everton have a decision to make on his future when he returns to Merseyside upon the expiry of his loan spell.
A youth product of Barcelona, Ramiez played a bit-part role in the first-team at Camp Nou before switching boats to join Malaga in 2016 where he rose to prominence with a 14-goal La Liga campaign.
His prolific form at Malaga prompted then Everton manager Ronald Koeman to trigger his buyout clause of £5.2m in July 2017 but it became more and more apparent as time went by that the Spaniard was never going to be able to replicate that kind of form in the Premier League.
The 23-year-old made only 16 appearances for Everton in the first half of the 2017-18 season before being shipped out on loan to Sevilla.
The Toffees would have hoped for him to find his feet back on his return to Spain but things have gone from bad to worse for the former Spanish youth international, with the former Barcelona man failing to find the net in over 18 months.
Had Ramirez bagged 5-10 goals in the La Liga this season, Everton would have found it easier to look for potential suitors and offload him this summer. However, as things stand, Everton have an overly tough job on their hands in their efforts to get him off their books following Sociedad’s refusal to sign him permanently.
It is a no-brainer that the Toffees would need to cut their losses on him soon enough, else offloading him would become tougher in the foreseeable future given his lacklustre run of form.
Now, getting rid of Sandro Ramirez is easier said than done for Everton. It is no rocket science that the Toffees are unlikely to get any suitable offers on the table for the Spaniard this summer, owing to his 18-month goal drought. On the other hand, reinstating him in the first team is hardly a viable option that Marco Silva would consider.
Come what may, Everton need to get rid of the deadwood in their ranks to trim their wage bill and accommodate fresh arrivals.
Sandro Ramirez certainly falls in that bracket, and in all honesty, the Toffees need to adopt a sell-before-buy policy this summer, with the likes of Cenk Tosun and Theo Walcott also proving to be glaring liabilities at Goodison Park.

Oumar Niasse, who is currently on loan at Cardiff City, is another striker who doesn’t seem to have a future at Goodison Park and Everton need to get rid of such players if they are to free up space for new exciting talents.
That said, Everton should prioritise offloading some of their underperforming stars in the summer transfer window.
