Why Manchester United must sack Jose Mourinho after horrendous Brighton display
Manchester United must sack Jose Mourinho. It doesn’t matter when they do it or how they do it, but it must happen sooner rather than later.
Ever since Sir Alex Ferguson’s retirement, United have been in shambles. The entire philosophy and style of football have taken a major hit due to the likes of David Moyes, Louis van Gaal and now, Jose Mourinho. Each of them might be great managers in their own right and there is no question about that. But neither of them is the right choice for United.
At present, if the Manchester-based outfit sack Mourinho as well, they might turn into a club like Chelsea where change is constant – at least when it comes to the managers. But after the defeat against Brighton & Hove Albion, change is the need of the hour at Old Trafford.
Mourinho has to go but at the same, the club must also get rid of underperformers and deadwood. The Red Devils did some underwhelming business over the transfer window, only signing Lee Grant, Fred and Diogo Dalot. One might argue that they fared better than Tottenham Hotspur, who failed to sign a single player. But at least Spurs have a solid first-team. The only solid thing about United right now is their apparent desire to do nothing on the field.
While Brighton deserve credit for their thunderous performance, it goes without saying that Mourinho’s men were simply embarrassing. Their defence was a joke, the midfield was non-existent and the attack? Do they even have that anymore?
Mourinho was always known for his infamous ‘parking the bus’ style of football. But back at Real Madrid and Chelsea, his players showed some ambition on the field. Meanwhile, United could hardly hold themselves up against Brighton.
The Red Devils are in dire need of a massive overhaul. And Mourinho is not a manager who excels at that. He can come in and purchase top-quality players to win trophies but when it comes to breaking down and building a team up from scratch, the Portuguese boss falters.
And that is exactly what is happening at Old Trafford right now. United must look for someone who is patient and effective enough to come in and change the entire dynamic of the team.
If United continue this way, they might as well kiss their legacy goodbye. But in order to improve and restore their former glory, the club must sack Mourinho immediately and bring in a manager who can steady the sails.
