Why Liverpool must offload their German keeper Loris Karius
According to Goal (h/t Daily Express), Liverpool are willing to offload goalkeeper Loris Karius and value him at just £6million.
Karius arrived at Anfield from the German side Mainz back in 2016 and went on to play 49 games for Liverpool. However, he has not played a single match for Liverpool since his horror show in 2018 Champions League final.
The German shot-stopper’s poor displays between the sticks ultimately saw him being shipped off to Turkish side Besiktas on loan the following summer. Liverpool then quickly found a replacement for Karius in Brazilian goalkeeper Alisson.
Alisson, meanwhile, has established himself as one of the best keepers in Europe after he played a key role in helping Liverpool win the Champions League last year and the Premier League this season. However, for Karius, there seemed to be no change in fortunes as his two-year spell in Turkey ended on a sour note.
The 27-year-old’s life on the pitch was also not an entirely successful one. He had a rather mixed spell while on loan in Turkey, managing just 14 clean sheets from his overall 67 appearances for Besiktas.
Karius an unwanted man at Liverpool
Karius has since opted to return to Germany rather than the Merseyside to train with the first-team. Meanwhile, Liverpool, in Karius’ absence, bought Adrian as a back-up, which saw the German drop further down the pecking order at Anfield.
33-year-old Adrian, on the other hand, has one more year remaining in his Liverpool contract with an option for a third. Also, with veteran keeper Andy Lonergan set to join the club next season, Karius’ place in the side looks under more jeopardy.
The club’s decision to listen to offers for their out-of-favour keeper further explains the fact that Karius is clearly an unwanted man at Anfield now. Meanwhile, clubs such as Montpellier and Hertha Berlin have shown an interest in Karius, and Liverpool should go ahead and mercilessly sell him rather than keep him in the side unnecessarily.

Verdict
With Alisson establishing himself as the first-choice keeper and Adrian proving his potential when given the chance, it is clear that first-team opportunities will be rare for Karius in the near future. Hence, they should not think twice about offloading their unwanted player amidst interest from abroad.
