Three Championship destinations for Chelsea youngster Tammy Abraham
Tammy Abraham is currently the third choice striker for Chelsea behind Alvaro Morata and Olivier Giroud. Given his drop down the pecking order at Stamford Bridge, he could benefit from a loan move to get more minutes. Having sent over 30 players out on loan this summer, Abraham could also possibly head out temporarily.
Abraham enjoyed an impressive loan with Bristol City two seasons ago, scoring 26 goals in 48 appearances across all competitions. After penning a new deal at Chelsea last summer, Abraham headed out on another loan spell to struggling Swansea City. The 20-year-old scored eight goals in 39 appearances across all competitions as the Swans were relegated from the Premier League.
The England U21 returned to Chelsea and had a decent pre-season. Abraham also featured for 21 minutes in the season’s curtain-raiser Community Shield defeat against Manchester City.
The versatile youngster can play across the forward line but it looks like he will struggle to play regularly for the Blues this season.
Hence, it would be in his best interests to look for first-team action elsewhere this season. Here, we look at 3 Championship clubs that Tammy Abraham could join.
1. Aston Villa
No other team has been as heavily linked with a move for Abraham as Championship side Aston Villa. Villa must attempt to win promotion back to the Premier League this time after narrowly missing out in the previous campaign. And given his skills, Abraham could certainly help fire the club back to the top-flight.
2. Derby County
Derby County lost Matej Vydra to Burnley and have struggled ever since. In fact, the Rams have lost three back-to-back matches.
However, Chelsea legend Frank Lampard could utilize Abraham’s skill-set up front as the Pride Park side must mount a promotion challenge. Having previously enjoyed an excellent season with the Robins, landing the striker on loan would boost Derby’s options up front. A threat from indirect free-kicks with excellent finishing skills, Abraham could fill Vydra’s void.
3. Swansea City
Tammy Abraham spent last season on loan at Swansea City. Andre and Jordan Ayew, and Borja Baston have departed on loan and Renato Sanchez has returned to Bayern Munich. Hence, Swansea could use a forward like Abraham. The Swans must win promotion and Abraham could find himself tasked with firing the Welsh side back to the Premier League.
