Man United Opinion: Red Devils should go all out to sign Pedro from Fluminense

According to Metro, Man United have been credited with an interest in Fluminese striker Pedro, with reports claiming that the Red Devils have begun talks with the Brazilian outfit to negotiate a deal for the 21-year-old centre-forward.

Pedro was heavily linked with a move to Real Madrid last summer and the Los Blancos were willing to pay £22million to bring him to the La Liga but the move collapsed due to the player suffering an anterior cruciate ligament injury.

However, Pedro has returned to action in the Brazilian top flight this term and United are now keeping close tabs on the highly-rated striker, although the Red Devils are likely to face stiff competition from the likes of Serie A giants Inter Milan and Atalanta, as well as Ligue 1 outfit Bordeaux. Pedro netted 10 goals in 19 league appearances for Fluminense last term before being sidelined with an injury but the youngster has hit the ground running immediately on his return this season, scoring twice in four outings.

The youngster was released by Flamengo at the age of 14 and he subsequently spent time at Duquecaxiense in the lower division before joining Fluminense back in 2014. Pedro made his senior professional debut in 2016 and he has gone on to carve out a reputation for himself as one of the brightest emerging prospects in Brazilian football ever since.

The 21-year-old has scored 17 goals in 50 appearances for Fluminense across all competitions, and while that might not be a jaw-dropping record, his talent and potential has been there for everyone to see.

Richarlison made his move to Watford from Fluminense a couple of years back and there is every chance that Pedro might be the next to make a name for himself in English football.

To put things into perspective, it is a no-brainer that United need to revamp their squad ahead of the upcoming season and a new centre-forward is likely to be high on Solskjaer’s recruitment list for the summer.

Romelu Lukaku has been linked with a move to Inter Milan (h/t Daily Mail) while Alexis Sanchez is unlikely to feature in the manager’s plans after struggling for form and fitness this term.

Marcus Rashford has progressed by leaps and bounds over the past few years but he is still in the developmental stage of his career and United can certainly do with more competition for places up front.

Indeed, United have the finances to bring in some of the best strikers in the world but the Red Devils would do themselves a world of good by splashing the cash on the highly-rated Fluminense hitman.

Moulding little-known youngsters into world-beaters have pretty been the United way of doing things and they should take a lesson from Richarlison’s metaphoric rise in English football. He was a South American rookie just a few years back and now he is amongst the most highly-rated youngsters in Europe.

Standing at 6ft. 1 inch with a well-built frame, Pedro is noted for his incredible technical abilities on the ball, clever movement, intricate first touch, intelligent link-up play, sharpness, agility and trickery.

He has exhibited the killer instincts of a natural finisher from a very young age and few would dare to argue that Pedro has the potential to develop into a  world-class prolific No.9 in the years to come.
