There were rumors that there would be a new love and hip-hop couple when Nicki Minaj confirmed to a fan that she and Eminem were dating, but over that very 2018 weekend the two confirmed that the whole ordeal was a joke.

It was in 2018 that the rapper told a fan in her Instagram comments that she and the Detroit native were an item and the music world nearly imploded because of the news. A source told E! that the rumored relationship was simply a joke but that didn’t stop the Grammy and Oscar winner from trying to shoot his shot anyway.

While on stage at the Boston Calling three-day music festival, the star asked the crowd if they’d like to see and the Queens native as an item. “Yo Boston, how many people in here want me to date Nicki Minaj?” he said to the audience. “So wait, one more time: Let me make sure so I can actually make this official. How many people want me to date Nicki Minaj?” In response to the crowd’s resounding cheers, Eminem answered, “Well goddamnit, me too!”

Minaj’s response to his relationship request? Well, she kind of curved him…hard. “LMFAOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO. The fact that he’s silly & a goof just like me. Love him so much,” she wrote on Twitter. “Em we need you on the #Queen album. That’s where our 1st date will be; at the studio while I gaze into ur beautiful eyes as u write ur verse.”

What is Eminem’s current situation in the dating scene?

The news came months after Eminem told Vulture that he hasn’t been dating much.

Eminem, whose real name is Marshall Mathers, is thought to be single. In a 2018 interview with Rolling Stone, the rapper said that it’s hard for him to find someone that he can trust. “I mean, I’d like to be in a relationship again someday. Who doesn’t? It’s just hard to meet new people, in my position,” he said. “I have trust issues. With women, friends, whatever. You always wonder what their real motives are.”

“It’s tough. Since my divorce I’ve had a few dates and nothing’s panned out in a way that I wanted to make it public,” he explained. “Dating’s just not where I’m at lately.” Eminem, who was previously married to ex Kim Scott, went on to reveal that he mostly uses Tinder to meet women. Occasionally, he breaks out of the digital realm and seeks love in the real world. “I also used to go to strip clubs,” he admitted.

“What can I say? Going to strip clubs is how I was meeting some chicks. It was an interesting time for me.” The Detroit rapper gained mainstream popularity in 1999 following the release of his album, The Slim Shady LP. Since then, he has continued his rise on the hip-hop scene, during which time, he has been linked to several high-profile celebrities.

Who has Eminem dated in the past?

Over the years, Eminem has only tied the knot with one woman.

He was married to Kimberly “Kim” Scott from 1999 to 2001 and then again briefly in 2006. They began dating in 1989 after meeting in high school. During that time, Kim lived with Eminem’s mother, Debbie Nelson, because she and her twin sister, Dawn, ran away from home to reportedly escape their alcoholic stepfather, according to Page Six.

“I met her the day she got out of the youth home,” Eminem recalled during a 2004 interview with Rolling Stone. “I was at a friend’s house, and his sister was friends with her, but she hadn’t seen Kim in a while ’cause she was in the youth home. And I’m standing on the table with my shirt off, on top of their coffee table with a Kangol on, mocking the words to LL Cool J’s ‘I’m Bad.’ And I turn around and she’s at the door. Her friend hands her a cigarette.”

He added: “I said to my friend’s sister, ‘Yo, who was that? She’s kinda hot.’ And the saga began. Now there’s the constant struggle of ‘will I ever meet somebody else that’s gonna be real with me, as real as I can say she’s been with me?’” After Eminem parted ways with Kim, he went on to have multiple relationships. His ex-girlfriends, according to Ranker, include Kaya Jones, Britney Spears, Brittany Murphy, Mariah Carey, Karrine Steffans and Tara Reid.

Eminem is also a father to Hailie Jade Mathers, as well as the adopted father of his niece, Alaina, and stepdaughter Stevie Mathers, formerly Whitney, whom Kim welcomed with her ex-husband Eric Hartter.
