The 21-year-old pop artist has established herself as a household name, earning a loyal fanbase who often search about her sexuality. After speculation about Billie Eilish’s sexuality — and subsequent accusations of queerbaiting — became hot topics earlier this year, it turns out that the artist addressed those questions (and jabs) head-on a couple of years ago.
In a 2021 interview with Elle, writer Molly Lambert noted that Eilish, then 19, had been the subject of relentless scrutiny online about her personal life — everything from how she dresses to how she looks. “Or my sexuality!” Eilish interjects in the piece. “Like, oh yeah, that’s everyone else’s business, right? No. Where’s that energy with men?”
Her comments come after some fans accused the singer of queerbaiting earlier this year, when she released a music video for her song “Lost Cause.”
The music video featured a group of women dancing and having fun at a sleepover, including a scene where they’re all sitting close together atop a bed. Eilish also posted photos from the video on Instagram with the caption, “I love girls.” That caused some to wonder whether it was a coming out moment, while others pointed to it as queerbaiting, or when one appropriates queer culture or queerness without actually being queer. Eilish never addressed those accusations directly — however, it was reported that Eilish liked a fan’s comment that did address the controversy.

The comment that Eilish liked was one that urged her fellow fans to stop speculating.
“This fandom is so embarrassing sometimes like why would you go in someone’s comments and say something that you literally don’t even know is true and something y’all LITERALLY MADE UP, sometimes y’all are so dumb. Some of you just need to learn how to mind your business,” the fan wrote.
