Everything you need to know about the lightning damage to the Christ the Redeemer Statue.
On Friday, February 10, a lightning bolt struck the 100-foot tall Christ the Redeemer Statue in Rio De Janeiro, and the image was captured by the Twitter user @Rainmaker1973. As soon as the lightning struck the statue, its left thumb was destroyed. When its head was damaged in 2014, the same occurrence took place. The Brazilian government restored the monument to its original condition despite significant damage from lightning.
Fernando Braga captured the stunning image on camera. As of now, 19.8 million people have viewed the image since it was posted. More than 209K people have liked the images so far. People started reacting as soon as the image was shared. A user wrote, “Now if that isn’t a sign from God! Then I don’t know what is! It’s not the fact that you’ve seen it! It’s the fact that you caught it on camera and everyone can see.” Another wrote, “No way! It’s gotta be photoshopped. If not that’s pretty freaky.”
Fernando posted the still and video on Instagram too, and he shared the camera settings in the caption: “BLESSED LIGHTNING! THIS FRIDAY! recordings made with a NIKON D800 with a 70-200mm f/2.8E lens at 70mm f/8 13 on February 10, 2023, at 6:55 PM (Christ) and 19:03 PM (Antenna) ISO 100.”
Brazilian Christ the Redeemer is an Art Deco statue of Jesus. The monument is located in Rio de Janeiro’s Tijuca Forest National Park atop the 700 m (2,300 ft) high Corcovado Mountains. This sculpture was created by Polish-French sculptor Paul Landrowski. In addition to this beautiful statue, there are seven wonders of the world. The monument was erected by Brazilian engineer Heiter da Silva Costa in collaboration with French engineer Albert Caquot. The statue’s face was created by Romanian artist Gheorghe Leonida.
A 30-meter-long statue, or 98 feet-long sculpture, is located at the plaza’s center. There is no mention of the 26-foot pedestal, which is 8 meters high. There is a span of 28 meters between the arms of the idol. In comparison with the Statue of Liberty, this monument stands about two-thirds as tall. 635 metric tons of weight are attached to this idol. This idol is considered a symbol of Christianity worldwide, including in India. Rio de Janeiro and Brazil now consider it to be a cultural landmark. Soapstone and reinforced concrete were used to construct the statue, which was built between 1922 and 1931.
