Being invited to the private fine-dining restaurant Hawthorne, which costs an outrageous $1250 per person, includes the benefit of taking this boat excursion. When Margot first hears this person, she is initially scared, but her partner is certain that this is a once-in-a-lifetime chance.

Oysters and lemon caviar are offered as a welcome meal once the passengers board the boat after it has arrived. From this point on, Margot begins to understand that her companion Tyler is almost totally devoted to the famous chef Chef Julian Slowik, who is in charge of the restaurant. She seemed to find it unusual that the meal was merely a twisted method of serving up everyday stuff fancily.
Soon after, it is clear that Margot was not initially invited and had just substituted for another lady who was meant to go with Tyler. Margot is often subtly informed that she is not expected to go through this. She and the other guests had no idea that what they will encounter over the remainder of the evening in this hall would really be a once-in-a-lifetime event, but one that they did not desire.
