In celebration of Grimace’s 52nd birthday, McDonald’s made an exciting announcement on June 6 – the introduction of their first-ever purple-colored shake. The Grimace Birthday Shake is a delightful combination of vanilla soft serve and berry flavors, paying tribute to Grimace’s iconic color and sweetness. This unique shake is featured as part of the Grimace Birthday Meal. It also offers customers a choice between the classic Big Mac or the popular 10-Piece Chicken McNuggets, accompanied by a serving of their delicious fries.

Originally, Grimace made his debut in a McDonaldland commercial in 1971, known as “Evil Grimace,” portrayed as a scaly, four-armed character with a menacing appearance. However, in an effort to make him more appealing and less intimidating to children, McDonald’s transformed Grimace into a lovable, two-armed, and cuddly creature who had an insatiable craving for McDonald’s milkshakes and enjoyed hanging out with Ronald.

Grimace’s endearing personality can be compared to Patrick Star from Spongebob Squarepants, as he is portrayed as a well-intentioned and clumsy simpleton. His speech is characterized by a slow and infrequent manner, often preceded by the word “duh.”

While the McDonaldland characters underwent streamlining in the 1980s, Grimace successfully made the cut and continued to be a beloved figure in McDonald’s commercials until 2003. However, since then, his appearances have been more limited.

Notable sightings include a lively dance performance at Dodger Stadium in July 2012, his presence in Malaysian Happy Meal toys, participation in the 2020 Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, and even being featured in a McDonald’s tweet in 2022 that humorously introduced a parody cryptocurrency called “grimace-coin.” Additionally, Grimace made a memorable appearance in a Super Bowl Commercial in 2022, voiced by the talented Ryan Reynolds.

Through the years, Grimace has remained a cherished part of McDonald’s history, captivating audiences with his endearing charm and contributing to the brand’s iconic roster of characters.
