Who was Dr Charles Stanley’s wife and why did they separate?
Anna Margaret Johnson was born on October 9, 1931, in Smithfield, North Carolina. She lived to the ripe old age of 83 before passing away in 2014. After enrolling at the Richmond Professional Institute, she stayed there for another four years to acquire a degree in painting. She went straight into teaching at George Mueller Christian School after finishing her degree.
Anna’s ex-husband, Charles Stanley, was a famous author. Anna is a seasoned marital veteran. They said “I do” in front of witnesses in 1955. Both a boy and a daughter were born to a happy couple. Becky Stanley is their daughter, and Andy Stanley is their son. There are two Stanley kids. Andy is the pastor of North Point Ministries, and their other son is also active in the ministry in different capacities.
When Charles and his wife Anna divorced in 2000, it caused a major uproar among Stanley’s devoted fan base and the local populace. It didn’t help that rumors had it that Stanley intended to retire as a pastor if the divorce went through. Nonetheless, Charles Stanley was ultimately re-elected by his church membership after his divorce. The regulations of First Baptist Church specified that he might continue in his role as a pastor if he did not remarry.
The pair wed in 1955, and by the early 1990s, rumors were circulating about the strain on their relationship. After announcing their split in 1992, Anna originally filed for divorce in June 1993 and asked for “separate maintenance.” Anna re-filed for divorce and requested a jury trial in March 1995, restarting the legal proceedings. In May of 2000, the divorce was completed.
