Who is Nivine Jay and what happened between her and Ben Affleck?
Not everyday does someone turn down an Oscar-winning high-profile celebrity, but model and influencer Nivine Jay has successfully done so – resulting in her getting famous in no time.
Nivine Jay is an actress, model, writer and social media influencer. She has appeared in two films, The Donut Split (2014) and Space Juice (2021). Nivine has also written a book titled Crybaby. The book focuses on the journey of a twenty-something-year-old after she breaks up with the love of her life.
In May 2021, Nivine revealed actor Ben Affleck had sent her a video asking why she unmatched him on celebrity dating app Raya. She believed the Oscar-winner’s profile on the elite dating app was “fake” so promptly turned down his advances. However, it turns out Ben’s account was real as she shared his video message in a hilarious TikTok that has been viewed over a million times.
“Thinking of the time I matched with Ben Affleck on raya and thought it was fake so I unmatched him and he sent me a video on instagram,” she wrote, along with four skull emojis.
After striking a series of poses, Nivine then inserted the video Ben, 48, allegedly sent her which saw him in a red T-shirt attempting to confirm his identity. The Justice League actor asked her: “Nivine, why did you unmatch me? It’s me!” before he ended the video with a smirk. Nivine captioned the clip “Sorry Ben” alongside a number of hashtags which included the actor’s name and the app Raya.
Speaking about the viral video, Nivine told E! News that said she meant no ill will toward Ben when sharing the clip.
She said: “I’m seeing a lot of comments calling him a creep and l don’t think that’s fair. I wasn’t making fun of him in the video.”
“l was making fun of myself for thinking he was a catfish and it was just supposed to be funny.”
