Eric Bischoff has opened up on his relationship with WWE Chairman Vince McMahon, during their time in WWE.
Since 1984, every wrestling promoter has tried to beat Vince McMahon and the World Wrestling Federation except Eric Bischoff. Moreover, WCW head Bischoff beat Vince McMahon’s Monday Night RAW head-to-head in Monday Night Wars 83 consecutive times.
“No, my ass will never find itself within kind of a permanent residence, or even an extended stay Marriott reservation in Stamford, Connecticut. So, that ain’t f*cking happening.”
Talking on 83 Weeks, Bischoff very firmly denies a possible reunion with his former employer, Vince McMahon. He hypothetically, however, spoke about a reunion as he admires the long-time chairman of the company.
McMahon brought Bischoff to WWF after the end of his wrestling career.
“When the call came from Vince, it was like, this is an opportunity to get out there and perform, which I knew as I was good at. Not to brag, but I knew I was,” he said.
McMahon brought Bischoff to WWE in 2002 , after WCW went out of business. The pair shared a heated rivalry, which culminated in a match at WrestleMania in 2004. The match ended in a draw after the arrival of Brock Lesnar. Lesnar delivered a thunderous blow to guest referee, Stone Cold Steve Austin that night.
Bischoff returned to WWE in 2019 as Executive Director of SmackDown.
With their WCW and WWF battling it in the late 90s, Bischoff had high praise for his former rival and business advocate.
“He’s such a unique individual. that challenge would be far more interesting to me than the challenge of trying to work with Bill Watts or Jerry Jarrett. That’s a different kind of challenge, one you have to level up, and the other you have to level down. No, I’d jump at that.”
“If that phone rang when we’re done with the show and that opportunity was presented to me I would be super grateful and super elegant and super polite and super convinced that I was not leaving my home. Now if we could do it virtually hell yeah, cool, but that ain’t real either.”
He was unfortunately fired after four months into his job as Executive Director in 2019.
