The sequel to hit game Mad Max, Mad Max 2 was allegedly under development
It was reported that Avalanche Studios, the developers for Just Cause were working on the Mad Max sequel. News surfaced that the sequel was potentially in development at Avalanche Studios even before the Covid-19 pandemic had started. It is now unknown whether the project was cancelled.
The 2015 Mad Max game was never considered a hit but it gathered positive reviews slowly. The game was well-received by the critics and it set an example of ‘open-world games’. The game is still well-loved by fans even now but sadly it did not have any follow-up until now. A few days ago, a tweet went viral and was related to the 2015 game’s sequel.
The tweet displays digital researcher Wendy W. Fox at Avalanche’s New York offices, having her face scanned using photogrammetry cameras, for ‘Mad Max 2’. The picture was apparently clicked pre-covid times and other than stating her role in the game, there is no other visible information. The tweet does not give out the answer on the game’s development progress.
Rumored information on the sequel
3D scanning technology was not used for the 2015 game, and the game’s poor quality character models were heavily criticised. So, using such a technology would logically mean improving the game’s standards from its predecessor.
There are also floating rumors on a new Mad Max film a prequel based on Furiosa character from Fury Road, that’s supposed to start production this year. Which itself is a perfectly good reason for launching a sequel now. Although the tweet does not confirm any sequel or any cancellation, one might remain hopeful.
