The world No. 26 Dan Evans takes on the world No. 68 Tallon Griekspoor in the round of 32 of the European Open on Monday.
The British No. 2 got off to a solid start this season with a semi-final appearance in Sydney. However, the rub of the green did not go his way in the next few tournaments. Evans won a Challenger event in Nottingham. In August, he made it to the quarter-finals of the Citi Open, and the semi-finals of the Canadian Open. Last month, he made it to the semi-finals of the San Diego Open.
The 32-year-old is coming into the tournament on the back of an exit in the round of 16 of the Japan Open. He lost to Serbia’s Miomir Kecmanovic in a three-set affair.
The Dutchman won his last match on August 22 in the round of 64 of the Winston-Salem Open against Taro Daniel. Since then, he has participated in four tournaments and has failed to win a match. Griekspoor has reached three quarter-finals this year. The first one was in Melbourne while the next two were in the Geneva Open and the Mallorca Open. He also won a Challenger title in Amersfoort in July.
At the recently-concluded Firenze Open, Griekspoor exited in the first round after he retired during his match against Aslan Karatsev while trailing 3-6, 1-2.
The head-to-head scoreline currently stands at 1-0 in favor of Dan Evans.
Prediction: Dan Evans to win in straight sets.
