David Goffin

The world No. 58 reached the quarter-finals in Sydney to get off to a good start in 2022. However, good results have been few and far between for Goffin. He won the title in Grand Prix Hassan II with a win against Alex Molcan. The 31-year-old went on to reach the quarter-finals at Wimbledon for the second time in his career. Since then, he went on a losing streak in the main draws of tournaments.

After six successive losses in the main draws, Goffin got back to winning ways in Astana with a monumental upset win against world No. 1 Carlos Alcaraz. The Belgian veteran won the match in straight sets 7-5, 6-3 but lost in the round of 16 against Adrian Mannarino.

The 17-year-old has shown signs of promise this year in the boy’s French Open and the US Open tournaments. In both tournaments, he reached the finals but failed to overcome the last hurdles.

The world No. 1185 has been handed a wildcard to participate in the tournament and it will be a nice experience for him to rub shoulders with some of the veterans of the game. It’s also going to be interesting to see how he copes with the pressure of facing a local hero in front of home fans, in what will be the teenager’s first ATP match.
