The world No. 28 Francisco Cerundolo locks horns with world No. 62 Marc-Andrea Huesler in the round of 32 of the European Open on Tuesday.
The 26-year-old found success in a couple of Challenger events in Mexico as he bagged two titles. Huesler produced an impressive display in the Winston-Salem Open, where he made it to the semi-finals before going down to Laslo Djere. The Swiss youngster bettered the effort at the Sofia Open earlier this month and won his first ATP title by defeating Holger Rune in the final.
In Astana, Huesler failed to build on his Sofia Open success and went down in the first round against Emil Ruusuvuori in straight sets 6-0, 6-2.
The Argentine has produced some fine results this season. He won a Challenger event in Santa Cruz in January. At the Argentina Open, he managed to reach the quarter-finals before losing to compatriot Diego Schwartzman. He backed it up with a run to the semi-finals at the Rio Open. Cerundolo’s year got better as he made it to the semi-finals at the Miami Open. After a few unpleasant results in the following tournaments, Cerundolo won his first ATP title at the Swedish Open.
Cerundolo also made it to the semi-finals at the German Open and the quarter-finals at the recently-concluded Gijon Open.
The head-to-head scoreline currently stands at 0-0 as the two players have not faced each other as yet.
Prediction: Francisco Cerundolo to win in three sets.
