McPherson began his football career at Fort Payne High School in Fort Payne, Alabama, where he was the team’s kicker and punter for four seasons. He set the Alabama High School record with a 60-yard field goal and an 84-yard punt at Fort Payne. In 2017, he was also named first-team All-State.
McPherson went on to play college football at Florida from 2018 to 2020 before foregoing his senior year to enter the NFL draft.
