Everton Opinion: Why Shinji Kagawa will be a smart fit for the Toffees?

According to Ruhr Nachrichten, West Ham United and Everton are interested in signing Shinji Kagawa from Borussia Dortmund in the summer transfer window.

The Japanese playmaker, 30, will return to his parent club Borussia Dortmund next month after spending the second half of the season on loan at Turkish giants Besiktas. He impressed in his loan spell with Besiktas, bagging four goals and two assists in 14 Super Lig games.

However, Shinji Kagawa’s future is uncertain at Dortmund, which perhaps has alerted the likes of Everton and West Ham. Keeping that in mind, Everton should try and aim to beat West Ham to the midfielder’s signature.

Having spent a lot in the last couple of summer windows, Everton may have to raise some funds before splashing the cash again. Marco Silva should offload some of his players before bringing in players that would fit his style of play at the club.

The Toffees’ biggest problem this past season was scoring goals, with neither Cenk Tosun nor Dominic Calvert-Lewin living up to the expectations. The duo’s disappointing performances up front forced Silva to push Richarlison into a number nine role, but the Brazilian showed he is better suited on the left rather through the middle.

While Everton’s need for a bonafide goalscorer is the need of the hour, Silva must also add a creative midfielder to his ranks, a player who can join the likes of Richarlison, Gylfi Sigurdsson and Bernard to wreak havoc against the opposition next season. In that case, Shinji Kagawa would be a good fit at Goodison Park.

Kagawa had an underwhelming spell in England with Manchester United, where he failed to live up to the lofty expectations of the fans. But he is well over that forgettable spell as the midfielder has matured and is currently operating in his prime.

The Japanese, despite being a natural no.10, can be deployed in central midfield, or on either wing. His versatility opens up a ton of options for Silva and Everton could highly profit off it next season. A brilliant passer of the ball, Kagawa has the ability to pick runs out in the final third and use his vision to split open defences. The 30-year-old’s movement will also make Everton’s attack a lot more fluid.

The ex-Manchester United man is also a good finisher off chances inside the box and his touch of flair combined with his experience will make him a smart addition for Everton.

Verdict

Kagawa ticks all the boxes Everton need in their attacking department and Marco Silva should have no hesitation in giving him a second chance in the Premier League.
