According to Tuttosport (h/t Liverpool Echo), Everton are eyeing a big-money move for Torino striker Andrea Belotti.
The Italian has been the Serie A outfit’s standout performer in the last couple of years and even helped them climb to seventh place in the 2018-19 campaign – their best in recent years. Belotti was impressive last season, scoring 17 goals across all competitions. However, he seems to be in even better form this season, having already scored 15 times.
The 26-year-old finisher’s best season, however, was in the 2016-17 season where he scored an impressive 23 goals to emerge third in the list of Serie A top goal-scorers.
To date, he has appeared in over 179 matches for the Italian outfit, scoring 85 goals and assisting 17 times, thus, making him one of the first names on the Torino team sheet.
Meanwhile, Everton have had a rather poor season, with the side currently 12th in the league table. Inconsistencies and a weak defence had seen the side struggling in the relegation zone earlier in the season. However, Ancelotti’s arrival has calmed things down a little bit. Nevertheless, the Italian would be well aware of the fact that he needs new faces to imprpve his squad’s performances next season.
Despite centre-forward Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s impressive displays this season, Everton cannot entirely rule out the possibilities of another striker as they lack depth in that department.
Newcomer Moise Kean, meanwhile, has had a season to forget as he still has found it difficult to adjust to the new surroundings at Goodison Park. The young finisher has found the back of the net just once in this whole season, thus raising concerns about his finishing capabilities.
Meanwhile, versatile Brazilian finisher Richarlison, who can play anywhere in the attack, is at his best when used across the left flank.
That said, roping in a consistent goal-scorer like Belotti would only bolster Ancelotti’s squad for the upcoming season.
Considering the number of goals that he has scored in the past few years, there is no denying that Belotti is a world-class talent. Moreover, his arrival would offer boss Ancelotti plenty of options in the attack. So this would be Everton’s best chance to land the star finisher if they wish to climb the ladder next season.
