Everton Opinion: Why the Toffees should go all out for Mohammed Kudus?

According to a report from Ghana Web, Everton are interested in signing FC Nordsjealland attacker Mohammed Kudus and have started negotiations over a potential transfer.

The 18-year-old has thus far played for one club during his fledgling career—FC Nordsjealland—where he came through the reserves before making an impression last term. He was solid in his debut season in the Danish Superliga, bagging three goals and two assists in 26 games.

The teenager’s performances have caught the attention of Everton, who are yet to agree on a deal with the Danish club for the transfer of Kudus, however.

Marco Silva has a big summer transfer window ahead of him, with Everton vying for European football next term. So far, the Toffees have signed Jonas Lossl on a free transfer after the relegated Huddersfield Town released him following the expiry of his contract. A lot of incomings are expected as Silva looks to improve next season.

The Toffees have their problems in midfield and strike department, with Idrissa Gueye’s future at Goodison Park unclear and the likes of Cenk Tosun and Dominic Calvert-Lewin not scoring enough goals this past season.

Tosun has been a flop since his big-money switch from Besiktas in January 2018 while Calvert-Lewin hasn’t quite produced the end product that’s required for a club chasing European football.

Gylfi Sigurdsson and Richarlison are undisputed starters but for the club to achieve their ambitions, they will have to concentrate on bringing up talented, hungrier young players, who can slot into the first-team very quickly.

Mohammed Kudus certainly could be one of those youngsters capable of arriving at the Goodison Park and making a strong impression in the Premier League. He played in two positions for FC Nordsjealland last term—up front and central midfield—for the reserves and the first-team, which tells Silva will get a highly flexible player if he manages to sign the teenager.

The Ghana Under-20 international’s composure on the ball and spatial awareness simply belie his age. Strong, good distributor of the ball, quick with a good eye for goal, Kudus possesses all the traits that a manager looks for in a young attacker.

The 18-year-old has shown his versatility with FC Nordsjealland and if Silva wants to deploy him as a no.9, he can potentially form a strong attack with the likes of Sigurdsson, Bernard and Richarlison next season.

Verdict

Mohammed Kudus is one of the best young talents coming out of Ghana and Everton should sign him at all costs this summer.
