According to Italian daily Tuttosport (h/t Daily Mail), Everton are considering the possibility of sending Moise Kean back to Italy on a one-year loan spell.
The 20-year-old Italian striker arrived at Everton just 12 months ago for a sum of £27.5million from Serie A giants Juventus. However, Kean’s start to life in England has not been a successful one, with the youngster managing just two goals from his 29 Premier League appearances.
Young Kean has struggled to settle at Goodison Park, largely due to a slip in form, which has seen him spend the major share of his time warming the benches.
With the youngster failing to establish himself in his first year in English football, the club are now considering sending him back to Juventus in order to regain his form. Kean has made just six Premier League starts since new boss Carlo Ancelotti’s appointment last December, suggesting that he is clearly not one of the favourites under the Italian boss.
Meanwhile, Everton have managed to finish 12th under the guidance of Ancelotti last season despite their initial struggles. Much of Everton’s success has been due to the excellent form of their forwards – Richarlison and Dominic Calvert-Lewin.
Both of them emerged the side’s leading goal scorers with 13 goals apiece. The two scored a combined 26 goals out of their team’s overall 44 goals last term, proving their significance in the current line-up.
With Richarlison and Calvert-Lewin in sensational form and arguably the Toffees’ key players last term, they seem to be the obvious first-choice strikers in the upcoming season.
That said, a struggling Kean’s first-team opportunities seem increasingly limited in the coming days. Also, apart from Richarlison and Calvert-Lewin, Everton also have experienced finishers Cenk Tosun and Sandro Ramirez in their side.
With the side already having an abundance of talent in front of the goal, it would be very difficult for Kean to break into the side. Hence, the club’s decision to send him back to Italy on loan for a year looks like a step in the right direction.
Hence, the Toffees must go ahead with their efforts to loan him out as it will give him more game time and prepare him for the upcoming challenges at Goodison Park.
It is clear that Everton have enough depth in their striking department and Kean’s departure will not hurt them next season. Moreover, he is just 20 and still has plenty of football left in him. Rather than keeping him on the fringes, a move somewhere else would help him gain more game time, which in turn, will boost his confidence.
