Everton prediction: Probable Toffees XI to face Liverpool

Everton are set to host rivals Liverpool at Goodison Park on Sunday after a long-enforced break in a crunching Merseyside derby.

The Toffees have done better under Carlo Ancelotti but they will raring to go on Sunday as they face their rivals for the third time this season. They are currently in 12th position in the league after a huge 4-0 defeat to Chelsea in their last Premier League fixture.

However, Everton have not had good results in the past few Merseyside derbies and it is not going be easy again this time around.

Jean-Philippe Gbamin is set to miss the game as he has done throughout the campaign and Theo Walcott is another player who will be a notable absentee after picking up an abdominal injury. However, Ancelotti has enough options after a host of injured players made their return to training.

Predicted Everton XI

Formation: 4-2-1-3

Jordan Pickford (GK)

Pickford’s form has drastically fallen and he needs to be at his best against the Reds. He is the first choice shot-stopper and is expected to start on Sunday.

Djibril Sidibe (RB)

The French full-back has done a decent job so far and has played ahead of Seamus Coleman since his arrival. He has 4 assists so far and he will be a key player at both ends of the pitch.

Mason Holgate (CB)

The young centre-back has shown progress in the last few months and he should get the nod ahead of Michael Keane, who has failed to live up to the expectations.

Yerry Mina (CB)

The Colombian has to step up and lead the defence if they are to keep Liverpool at bay. He could be crucial for the Toffees in set-piece situations.

Lucas Digne (LB)

Digne has been one of the few good performers in the squad this term. He is their top assist-provider (6) and will be a key player in the team’s attack from the back.

Andre Gomes (RCM)

The former Barcelona man was out of action for a long time and his return would be a boost to the squad. He seemed to be in good form before he picked up an injury and would be hoping to continue from where he left.

Tom Davies (LCM)

The 21-year-old has seen a huge dip in form. He has contributed with just 1 goal so far. However, with a lack of options in midfield, he is expected to start.

Gylfi Sigurdsson (CAM)

The Iceland international needs to improve after a poor show for the majority of the 2019/20 campaign. He will be key to unlocking Liverpool’s tight defence and needs to be at his best.

Richarlison (LW)

The Brazilian has racked up 10 goals so far and would be hoping to do well for the remainder of the campaign. He is in good form and would start for sure.

Alex Iwobi (RW)

The absence of Walcott would be a huge chance for Iwobi to shine. The Nigerian hasn’t done enough so far and should grab the opportunity to claim the spot for himself.
