According to Football Insider (h/t The Express), Everton are set to hand a new long-term contract to striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin.
The Englishman, 22, has enjoyed an impressive season with Everton, scoring 11 goals and registering an assist further in 24 league appearances. He was linked with a £50million move to Manchester United in January but Dominic Calvert-Lewin signing a new contract should end any speculation now, claims Football Insider. (h/t The Express)
Calvert-Lewin still has three years left on his deal at Goodison Park but the club will offer him a new long-term contract, which will give him a massive wage hike, the report adds. (h/t The Express)
A product of the Sheffield United academy, Everton signed Calvert-Lewin in 2016 and made 11 appearances in his debut season at Goodison Park. In the 2017/18 campaign, he made 32 league appearances, scoring four goals. Last season, the former England Under-21 international scored six goals in 35 league games.
Calvert-Lewin has already netted 11 goals this time around, becoming indispensable to manager Carlo Ancelotti, who replaced Marco Silva in December as the permanent manager. He has built a strong partnership with Richarlison up front as Ancelotti’s Everton has reaped the rewards of this increasingly deadly duo. They have netted 20 goals between them, with both Calvert-Lewin and Richarlison recently scoring in the 3-1 victory over Crystal Palace.
Calvert-Lewin is likely to get more opportunities if he continues to put in the hard yards on the training ground and the new contract can certainly be regarded as a vote of confidence in the striker’s abilities. With Everton now being managed by one of the experienced tacticians in Ancelotti, the Toffees have every reason to look at the 22-year-old as a regular starter in the years to come.
Talks of Everton handing Calvert-Lewin a new deal is definitely a step in the right direction and one that clearly highlights the club as well as Ancelotti’s trust in the young striker.
