Everton Opinion: Toffees should not hesitate to play a gamble on Adolfo Gaich
According to claims from Marca in Argentina, Everton have been credited with an interest in 20-year-old San Lorenzo centre-forward Adolfo Gaich.
The same source suggests that Everton are close to triggering the £11.7 million release clause in Gaich’s contract, although the Toffees are likely to face stiff competition from Serie A sides Genoa, Lazio and Inter Milan in their pursuit of the highly-rated Argentine prodigy.
Adolfo Gaich is not the only Argentine youngster to have been linked with a move to Goodison Park, though, with Everton also interested in signing his teammate Santiago Sosa. (h/t Liverpool Echo)
The 20-year-old scored 3 goals in the FIFA U-20 World Cup in Portugal against the likes of South Africa, Mali and Portugal before Argentina crashed out in the last 16. And it is believed that the youngster’s prolific form at the youth level for his nation has caught the eyes of the Everton scouts.
Born in Bengolea, Argentina, Gaich had stints at Unión Bengolea, Sportivo Chazón, Atenas and Atlético Pascanas, prior to joining San Lorenzo in 2014. He quickly rose through the club’s youth ranks and was promoted to the senior team in 2018, where he made his debut in a draw against Union Santa Fe.
Gaich enjoyed a breakthrough season in San Lorenzo’s first team the last term and scored twice in 13 appearances for his boyhood club. While those numbers don’t look too good on paper, the 20-year-old earned rave reviews for his performances in his very first season at the senior level. He is regarded as one of the nation’s brightest emerging prospects and Everton’s links with the youngster do not come as much of a surprise.
Standing at 6ft. 3 inches with a towering and sinewy frame, Adolfo Gaich is an absolute beast in the making. Noted for his supreme physicality and aerial ability, Gaich has earned plaudits for his natural finishing and poaching instincts inside the box.
The Argentinian youth international is not only adept at winning headers but he has also showcased the ability to use short exchanges to link-up with his teammates in and around the box.
To add to that, Gaich often uses his physicality to ride past challenges and his smart hold up play often brings others into the game as well, meaning that the 20-year-old has shown a level of maturity that defies his tender years.
To put things into perspective, Everton have every reason to look at Adolfo Gaich as a potential target for the summer, given the lack of a prolific centre-forward in their ranks. While one might argue that he is too young and raw to make the step up to the Premier League at this stage of his career, the Toffees certainly need to invest in young and talented players to build a strong platform for renewed success under Marco Silva.
Richarlison and Gylfi Sigurdsson were the key contributors in terms of goals and assists in the Premier League this past season, whilst the likes of Cenk Tosun and Theo Walcott just didn’t do enough.
Youngster Dominic Calvert-Lewin chipped in with 6 goals in the Premier League but it was quite apparent that he is not the finished article just yet, meaning that Everton need to bring in a new striker this summer if they are really serious about challenging for a Europa League spot next term.
Gaich hardly fits the bill in that aspect but he is a really talented centre-forward and Everton could possibly have a gem on their hands in the years to come if he manages to realise his potential at Goodison Park.

Richarlison has reminded the critics that South American starlets are capable of making in impact in the Premier League and the Toffees should not hesitate to play a gamble on Gaich, although one does get the feeling that they would still need to bring in a proven striker to close the gap on the top-six.
