Everton Opinion: Why the Toffees should go for Ibrahim Sangare?
According to a report from the Daily Post, Everton are interested in signing Toulouse midfield powerhouse Ibrahim Sangare.
The uncapped Ivorian, 21, was impressive in the last season with Toulouse, managing a goal and two assists in 28 Ligue 1 appearances. The French club have named their price for the defensive midfielder, who is also believed to have caught the attention of Lyon.
The report claims that Everton will have to pay in the region of £22m to land Ibrahim Sangare, as the 22-year-old did sign a contract extension last season until 2022.
Everton need reinforcements in every department after finishing eighth in Marco Silva’s debut season at the Goodison Park. The Merseyside outfit were inconsistent throughout the campaign, something which Silva will look to change to give his team a better chance of breaking into the top six next term.
But one cannot deny the Toffees need new additions over the summer, especially in midfield. The Sport reports that Andre Gomes is closing in on a permanent move to the Goodison Park. Everton are locked in negotiations with Barcelona over the structure of a deal that is set to be worth over €30m.
Signing Gomes permanently would be excellent for Silva after the midfielder impressed in his loan spell last season. But his midfield partner—Idrissa Gueye—is a transfer target for Paris Saint-Germain. Everton did manage to keep hold of the Senegalese in January but if PSG come up with an offer of around £30million, the Merseysiders must sell him this summer.
Gueye will turn 30 in September and his Everton contract expires in the summer of 2022, which is why cashing him on would be the right move. And by doing so, Silva must replace him with the young Ibrahim Sangare.
A midfield enforcer, Sangare has immense stamina and energy which helps him tirelessly move around the pitch and break opposition’s attacks. He is technically solid, can pass the ball well and has the physical qualities to thrive in the Premier League. Standing at 6ft 3in, the Ivorian is composed in possession and expert at driving with the ball from deep.

An excellent tackler, the 21-year-old also possesses good pace, power, dribbling skills and ability to pick a pass. Sangare is a real handful when he gets in the box and while isn’t renowned for scoring goals, he’s an asset to have on both ends of the pitch.
Verdict
Sangare’s age, profile and maturity on and off the ball is appealing and he could be the right man to replace Gueye at Everton. As Gomes is close to joining Silva’s team, we might also see a new midfield partnership between Gomes and Sangare blossom next season, who knows?
