Everton Opinion: Why Santiago Sosa will be a good fit for the Toffees?

According to Argentinian newspaper Ole, Everton are interested in snapping up River Plate midfielder Santiago Sosa this summer.

Santiago Sosa, 20, has been called into the Argentina squad, who will be hoping to claim the under-20 World Cup in Poland this summer. Everton have now made contact with the agent of River Plate midfielder, in the hope of securing his signature.

The report claims Sosa has an £11.5million release clause after he signed his first contract with River Plate until June 2021. That being said, Everton should look to complete the deal once the summer transfer window opens.

Everton had an underwhelming 2018/19 campaign despite signing some really good players last summer. But if anything that gives optimism for the Everton fans is that Marco Silva’s men made Goodison Park a nightmare for the opposition in the last few months of this past season.

Silva has now a big summer ahead of him, and with the help of the club’s transfer chief Marcel Brands, he needs to recruit players that’ll help the Toffees challenge for a top-six spot next season. Interest in Santiago Sosa, who is regarded as a top talent in Argentina, clearly suggests the Merseysiders are moving in the right direction.

Marcel Brands has a glowing reputation of bringing in young talents from South America from his time at Eredivisie giants PSV Eindhoven. He is trying to establish the same pattern at Goodison Park by tapping the South American market for young, promising players.

Everton must look to build on their promising end to the Premier League season under Marco Silva, as they look to challenge for European football in the coming campaign. As impressive as Sosa has been for River Plate, he has no experience of English football, meaning he’ll take time to adapt to the Premier League. But the 20-year-old is a top talent and one of the best in Argentina in all honesty.

Verdict

The Toffees do indeed need the stability and everyone associated with the club must hope that Silva is the right man to oversee long-term change at the club. The Portuguese tactician may not happy with Everton’s ninth-placed finish this past season, but he’ll not be much worried either as he wants to build the club in the summer.

Sosa would also be a good fit for Everton, so if they do indeed want him, then they need to pay his release clause once the transfer window re-opens.
