Everything About the 1960 Buick LeSabre

Buick LeSabre remains one of the best-selling Buick vehicles of all time. It was in production between 1959 to 2005 for almost 50 years. Manufactured by Buick and General Motors, Buick LeSabre is a sedan known for its durability. Buick LeSabre was available in 8 generations, but the first-generation vehicles remain classic. Here is everything about the first-generation Buick LeSabre features, technology, and styling.

First-generation LeSabre

Affordable Car

First-generation Buick LeSabre

There are many reasons for the success of Buick LeSabre vehicles, but the primary reason is its pricing. LeSabre first-generation cars were sold for $2,800 USD. Although it may seem expensive, it was confirmed affordable for its features. Being a full-sized sedan, people preferred LeSabre for its features, durability, and performance. The first-generation LeSabre is now available in collector markets for a price above $30,000 USD.

Nailhead Engines

Not every muscle car is built with Nailhead V8 engines, but some models of Buick were equipped with the powerful Nailhead V8 engines. Buick LeSabre was equipped with 6.0L Nailhead V8 engines. The overall top speed for the vehicle was 120mph powered by the 2-speed Dynaflow automatic gearbox. It was rare to see a full-sized sedan with the best engines, but LeSabre was one amongst them.

Incredible Features

The first-generation LeSabre had some amazing features. Back in the 50s, it was hard to see advanced features and technology for cars. The engineering for the LeSabre was incredible with power steering, power brakes, wraparound windshield, Mirromatic tilted reflection speedometer, and aluminium drum brakes. The features and technology delivered great performance with a comfortable ride.

Styling

LeSabre first-generation models were known for tailfins, headlights, grille, and side trim. The concave grille with headlamps impressed the buyers. Be it 2-door coupes or 4-door sedans, the entire styling was great. The styling included a long hood, wide stance, trim lines, and low roofline. LeSabre was called a “Land Yacht” when it was unleashed.

It Was Not a Performance Vehicle

The unprecedented features and technology of the first-generation LeSabre didn’t make it a performance vehicle. Buick designed it as a comfortable vehicle with excellent durability. The smooth suspension,  bench seats, big space, and V8 engines ensured the passengers had a comfortable ride. The engineering, V8 engines, Dynaflow gearbox, and RWD drivetrain made sure it was a durable vehicle.

Sold Like Hot Cakes

Buick LeSabre remains one of the highest selling cars of the model. More than 8 million LeSabre models have been sold during its production. The first-generation LeSabre sold around 3 lakh units. Although the numbers may look great, it was low when compared with the other LeSabre models. This is because it was just in production for 2 years before the next generation models arrived. Buick LeSabre 1959 and 1960 models were sold between $2,700 USD to $8,000 USD.
