Rampage (1986)
The original Rampage is an arcade game where you take control of one of the gigantic monsters and go on a rampage through various cities of the United States. Up to three players can control the trio simultaneously. The game was later ported to the Atari consoles, Apple 2, NES, Amiga, Commodore-64, MS-DOS and Sega Master System.
Rampage World Tour (1997)
The giant monster trio George, Lizzie and Ralph have been released due to an explosion at the Scumlabs facility. The trio then travels throughout the world, destroying all the Scumlabs facilities. In the final levels, the CEO of Scumlabs transforms himself into a monster in an attempt to stop the trio. The second instalment of the series was also ported to home consoles like Sega Saturn, Nintendo 64, Gameboy Colour, Playstation and Microsoft Windows.
Rampage 2: Universal Tour
The trio has been captured and held in various cities across the world. The monsters and the cities make a reference to all the movies that they were inspired from. George the giant gorilla is held in New York (King Kong), Lizzie the reptilian creature is held in Tokyo (Godzilla) and Ralph the werewolf is kept in London (An American Werewolf in London).
But Scumlabs builds another facility and causes another lab accident. This leads to the creation of three more monsters- Boris a rhinoceros monster, Curtis a mouse monster and Ruby a lobster monster. The player can choose to free one of the original monsters from the trio. When the monster is freed from imprisonment, the four monsters are required to protect the Earth from an Alien invasion. They fend off the alien invasion with the help of another alien trapped in Area-51. They chase them back to their home planet and destroy their capital.
Rampage Through Time
The world is rebuilding after all the destruction caused by the monsters. The corrupt Scumlabs creates a time machine to stop all the destruction before it was ever caused.
All the monsters from the previous games come back to cause more destruction this time accompanied by Harley the Warthog. They destroy Scumlabs and travel through time and go on a ramage in the past, present and the future. The monsters are later defeated.
Rampage Puzzle Attack (2001)
The Rampage Puzzle attack was released on the Gameboy Advance as a casual puzzle game with the Rampage characters. The game itself is a clone of the puzzle game Drop Mania. It has a single-player mode and a two-player mode. The main trio is freely available while the player has to unlock the other monsters through the Rescue Mode.
Rampage: Total Destruction
Total Destruction was released for the popular home consoles at that time- Gamecube, Playstation 2 and the Wii. The game has the classic ‘Giant monsters go on a destruction frenzy’ mode. This time the origin story of the monster has been changed. Scumlabs is testing a new soda which has a negative reaction on some people. This causes them to mutate into giant monsters.
Rampage (2018)
The new version is a reboot of the original game. It was made as an arcade game available at Dave and Buster’s and Hollywood Bowl. The game was remade to promote the movie based on the game series. The gameplay is similar to the original games. The players can now collect power-ups to further evolve the monsters.
Rampage: The Movie
A movie inspired by the original games was made and released in 2018. It starred Dwayne Johnson. The movie changed the story of the monsters. Instead of mutating from humans, the monsters are created due to the reaction between the animals and some chemicals.
The Rampage Series is one of the most successful video game franchises. They have been released on multiple platforms for the players to enjoy.
