Khabib Nurmagomedov recently retired from MMA with a 29-0 record with some claiming that he is the GOAT in MMA

Alex Morono was speaking exclusively to Jer Wilson of the Blood, Sweat and Tears podcast. The 30-year-old faces Rhys McKee next but was asked about one big debate in MMA.

The talk of the greatest of all-time (GOAT) in MMA circles. Some have claimed that Khabib Nurmagomedov is the GOAT while others have backed Jon Jones from the current generation.

There are other names such as Georges St-Pierre being brought up too and Morono shared his thoughts on the MMA GOAT.

Morono brought up stars such as Fedor Emelianenko, St-Pierre, Jones and Khabib. The American claimed all of these stars were in different timelines but he was impressed by Khabib going 29-0 in his career.

Morono brought up Jones past with drugs, GSP also having losses but Khabib didn’t have any such losses. He did name one current UFC star that could come close to Khabib and that is Israel Adesanya:

“The only guy who can potentially best it is Israel Adesanya. He is 20-0, to see that many wins with no losses is so incredibly hard to do.”

Morono added that how a fighter portrays himself outside the Octagon was also important. He brought up Khabib being a great role model and how the Russian would speak about his parents and follow his religion perfectly.

That was the reason why he saw Khabib as the GOAT, but he did bring up his bias too

“Khabib is an easy frontrunner for that but I am a huge Khabib fan, so I am a bit biased.”

Khabib vs GSP?

There has been talk of Khabib returning for a 30th fight against St-Pierre, something that he had spoken about in the past before his shock retirement.

The former UFC Lightweight champion shocked the world after retiring but Dana White isn’t believing that.

The UFC president claimed that Khabib would be back for a 30th fight. However, Morono didn’t believe that was true.

He suggested that a Khabib vs GSP clash would be amazing as he loved the Canadian legend but the Russian wasn’t someone who would break a promise.

Khabib is a man of his word and promised his mother he was done with fighting after defeating Justin Gaethje.

It will be interesting to see what is next for the Russian but he certainly is in the conversation for being the GOAT.
