Alex Morono cited the Matrix as the one movie that got him keen on MMA
Alex Morono faces Rhys McKee in his next fight and was speaking to Jer Wilson in an exclusive interview.
The 30-year-old has been in the fight game for almost a decade and made his debut in 2010. Morono has won titles in other promotions but his quest for UFC gold continues.
His next clash won’t be an easy one against Rhys McKee and it will be interesting to see how it goes. While Morono opened up about the mental aspect of the fights and how he trains regularly, he was also asked about how he got into MMA.
The 30-year-old named one movie that got him hooked into the phase and that was the start of his MMA journey:
“I was always into fighting. I had two older brothers so we were growing up playing Mortal Kombat.
“What really got me into the Bruce Lee, the Jet Li and Jackie Chan phases as a youngster was after I watched the Matrix.
“It was 1999, I was nine years old and after watching that movie, I was hooked on martial arts.”
Morono added that in high school he would play poker and watch Pride and UFC fights which piqued his interest in the sport.
He trained once and has been training every day for 15 years. The Matrix had Keanu Reeves, Lawrence Fishburn and Carrie-Anne Moss doing a lot of martial arts, and that is a pretty good movie to get hooked into MMA.
Watched him on PSP
While the Matrix was one way to get into MMA, Morono was asked if he had any favourite fighters growing up.
The 30-year-old named Mirko Cro Cop as the one he loved watching growing up. However, he spoke about a friend who got him hooked to the MMA legend.
Morono’s friend had a PSP (PlayStation Portable) and that included a ton of Cro Cop videos.
