Deiveson Figueiredo is the current UFC Flyweight Champion but faces a tough opponent in Brandon Moreno

Brandon Moreno has the biggest fight of his career at UFC 256 where he faces Flyweight champion Deiveson Figueiredo.

The pair both fought at UFC 255 and won their respective fights. It was a bit of a surprise seeing such a quick turnaround from the pair but this should be an excellent battle.

Both have been impressive in the UFC with Figueiredo destroying Alex Perez in his title defence. While Moreno is the underdog in this clash too, that is a tag he isn’t worried about. He was speaking on the Schmozone podcast and brought up how much Figueiredo has been hyped up.

The champion has also spoken about usurping UFC legend Demetrious Johnson in the past but Moreno isn’t worried about all the talk regarding Figueiredo:

“I need to be a smart guy. Every body is saying that ‘Deiveson Figueiredo is the next superstar of the company’, ‘He is the next Demetrious Johnson’ but, every body can talk.

“I am always the underdog in my fights, even with [Brandon] Royval. I was the #1 in the rankings, he was #6 but I went in as the underdog in a lot of different communities.”

Ready for a bout

One aspect of Figueiredo’s game is his punching power. While he won his last fight via a submission, he knocked down Joseph Benavidez several times during their two bouts.

However, Moreno brought up his striking power too and believed he could do some damage to the champ:

“They can talk, it is fine. I need to be smart because, obviously, he has power in his right hand. He has shape, he has cardio and to be really smart with him but at the same time if you watch my last fight, I can compete, I can fight, I can throw some punches at him.

“He looks strong but I am strong too. I don’t have abs but I am strong, more than other guys, so we will see on December 12”

Moreno currently is on a three-fight win streak and hasn’t been defeated since his return to the UFC. The 26-year-old had respect for Figueiredo since the Brazilian accepted this quick fight, and it will be interesting to see who comes out on top later this month.
