Sugar Sean O’Malley is a target for UFC star Cody Stamann

Cody Stamann was the latest guest on WERMMA as he spoke about his trip to Fight Island and his future in the UFC.

The 30-year-old lost to Jimmie Rivera at UFC Fight Night: Ige vs Kattar. However, the American was unfazed after this featherweight loss.

Stamann had taken the fight on short notice and went the distance with his rival. He claimed that in the long-run it wouldn’t be considered as a loss and looked at the positives from the clash:

“Whether I won or lost, you fight one of the best guys in the world and are not mentally in it and you are definitely not in the physical condition that you should be if you are getting into a fight like that, you know.

“I look at it like it was just a stepping stone. In the longevity of my career, I’m not sure that this will be much of a loss to me. I know that I am one of the best guys in the world, I’m working hard and always getting better so I’d be willing to fight anyone.”

Stamann added that he was willing to get back into the Octagon before the end of the year and there wasn’t one particular name he was keen on taking on.

Sean O’Malley, for his part, has been excellent in the UFC. The 25-year-old is undefeated in his MMA career and has 12 wins on the spin.

While Stamann has fought in the Bantamweight division in the past, his last two clashes have come in the featherweight category.

Nevertheless, he was asked if he would beat O’Malley and the 30-year-old was confident of getting the job done:

“Yeah, of course. I’ll break that guy.”

It will be interesting to see what is next for Stamann after his latest outing. The American is keen on fighting again later in the year and is hopeful of getting into the title scene later on.

He backed Aljamain Sterling to be the next rival for Bantamweight champion Petr Yan too, and claimed this would be a great fight between two tough stars.

O’Malley’s next fight is against Marlon Vera at UFC 252 and many eyes will be on Sugar as he tries to keep his winning streak.
