Sam Alvey named his win over Rashad Evans as one of his greatest ever

UFC Light Heavyweight star Sam Alvey spoke candidly on several topics while on MMA Unhinged.

The 34-year-old has 48 professional MMA fights under his belt and has had some incredible clashes under his belt.

While Alvey has never won a title in the UFC, he does hold the record of most fights in 12 months. He is tied with Donald Cerrone regarding this and was asked which one of his fights was his best.

Alvey defeated UFC Hall of Famer Rashad Evans in 2017 and that was one fight that he loved:

“We gotta go with Rashad Evans. I beat a Hall of Famer, he’s on the champions list. That’s really one of the fights I am most proud of.

“Then my fight against Nate Marquardt, that’s probably my favourite fight in the UFC. Nate was a coach of mine at the Ultimate Fighter and he’s just a legend of the sport. He belongs in the UFC Hall of Fame as well.”

Open to fighting in either division

Although Alvey has lost his last four fights, the American was willing to step into the Octagon again.

The 34-year-old joked that he wanted to fight anyone who didn’t have a chance of beating him, and was just glad that a fight could be on the cards soon.

However, he revealed that there is a decision to be made on his weight class. While he currently fights in the Light Heavyweight division, he was open to going a division down to 185 pounds too.

His last fights have been at 205 pounds but things could change once he hears about a next possible opponent.

Alvey confirmed he was willing to drop down but added that he wasn’t making excuses for any losses he was part off.

The UFC star added that he was a better fighter than what his recent record of four losses showed. However, he wasn’t going to blame these on anyone but himself.
