Joe Giannetti will be in action at LFA 89 and plans for a future in the UFC

Joe Giannetti is set to make his LFA debut at LFA 89 and the 25-year-old already has charted his future.

The 25-year-old has fought for Cage Titans in the past and was also on the Ultimate Fighter but lost his final clash in the season.

He was training under Daniel Cormier and while he spoke about his former coach taking on Stipe Miocic, the 25-year-old also shared his plans for the future.

Giannetti claimed that should he win at LFA 89, he would be keen on getting another shot at the UFC with the Contender Series a possibility.

However, if that was not to happen, the 25-year-old was more than happy to get a title shot at LFA. Giannetti admitted that he needed to win at LFA 89 for that to happen, but he was more than confident of getting the W.

The 25-year-old is currently 9-2-1 in his MMA career but there was one fight that he spoke about in particular.

He was to face Paddy Pimblett in late-2019. However, that clash was called off due to Giannetti missing weight.

While Giannetti admitted he dropped the ball by not being the right weight, he opened up on the situation and how his rival avoided a fight.

Not risking a sauna bath

Giannetti claimed that Pimblett just didn’t want to fight him and there were attempts to get the pair going again:

“He just didn’t want to fight me, period. Unfortunately, I gave him his reason to make it look good as to why he didn’t want to fight.

“After the fight had officially been cancelled, Cage Warriors did whatever they could to make that fight happen, I still have the texts.”

Giannetti added that it was Paddy didn’t want to fight him, but he did reveal what Pimblett told him when they bumped into each other:

“’I would have fought you if you went back in the sauna but you didn’t so we can’t fight.’

“The reason I didn’t go back in the sauna after I missed is because prior to the weigh-ins, I was in the sauna for an hour, and I didn’t have a bead of sweat in me. It means there was nothing left in my body and at that point, I’m just damaging myself for life, not just the fight.

“Because after that comes kidney failure and all that stuff, and I am not dying over a fight I took last minute.”

Giannetti again couldn’t believe his rival didn’t want to fight due to him not being in the sauna and could have used the weight excuse.

The 25-year-old also believed that Paddy didn’t want to fight him on a full camp too.
